Photographing Multigenerational Family Portraits

Sometimes people live long enough to become the eldest of six generations!!

This is Hilda who recently passed away at 103! She was the eldest of six generations of women and was quite a powerhouse. I am always so happy to make the acquaintance and develop friendships with those older and wiser than me. It was such a blessing to photograph this amazing family.

I have had the privilege and have an affection for photographing people at the end stages of their life whether they are old or tragically young over the years of being a photographer. While this is an incredibly tender and often intimate time for both those dying and the family surrounding them, having images of this phase of life can be incredibly meaningful to the family and friends left behind. These are some memories of Hilda, who lived a full life and got to hold her great, great, great granddaughter!
